Before having her daughter Blue Ivy, the 35-year-old entertainer suffered a miscarriage which she opens up about in her HBO documentary, Life is But a Dream.
In the documentary, Beyonce spoke extremely candidly about the pain and heartbreak she and husband Jay Z experienced after the miscarriage.
“Being pregnant was very much like falling in love,” Beyonce said. “You are so open. You are so overjoyed. There’s no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you, so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone.”
After learning she suffered from a miscarriage, Beyonce said she wrote the “saddest song” she has ever written.
“And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album. And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I’ve ever been through,” she said.
After the documentary was released, Beyonce sat down for an interview with Oprah where she explained that she went public with the miscarriage in order to help other couples who went through the same situation.
“I felt like there are so many couples that go through that and it was a big part of my story,” Beyonce said.
