John Boyega is starring in the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel and he has shared the first photo from the movie!

“I am Pentecost,” the 24-year-old actor captioned the photo on Twitter. He added the 2018 release date and the film’s full title, Pacific Rim: Uprising.

John will be playing Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba‘s character from the first movie, Stacker Pentecost.

Scott Eastwood is also starring in the film along with the original film’s Rinko Kikuchi. Original star Charlie Hunnam will not be returning.

Charlie Hunnam has confirmed that he will not be in the movie Pacific Rim 2 due to availability issues.

“I’m very excited about it. I’m glad they’re making it. I think it’s going to be great,” the 36-year-old actor told Yahoo at Comic-Con.

“I read an early draft of what they’re doing. There was one incarnation of this sequel that involved me heavily, but I was unavailable,” Charlie added. “They have a very definite schedule that they have to film because of politics and business surrounding filmmaking. Sometimes, non-creative decisions will dictate how something unfolds, which seems backwards in fact that we’re making art, or at least aspiring to make art. It just ended being unfortunately something we couldn’t remedy because by the time they got their schedule, we realized I wasn’t available.

“I think they’re on to something exciting. It’s a significant progression, which you always hope it will be,” Charlie said. “It feels like they’re really aspiring to push this thing forward and do something original with the sequel.”

John Boyega is set to star in the upcoming film, slated for release in February 2018.

Scott Eastwood is being eyed by Legendary Pictures to star alongside John Boyega in the upcoming movie Pacific Rim 2.

The sequel was just given a release date in February 2018 and Deadline reports that Scott‘s role is currently under wraps.

John will be playing the son of the character that Idris Elba played in the first film.

Scott, who starred in last year’s romantic movie The Longest Ride, will next been seen in Suicide Squad and the highly anticipated action film Fast 8.

Pacific Rim 2 is in the works and the film was just given a release date of February 23, 2018!

The movie will star John Boyega, the breakout actor of the hit film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He will be playing the son of Idris Elba‘s character from the first movie.

Pacific Rim hit theaters in 2013 and it starred Charlie Hunnam and was directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The movie racked up $411 million at the worldwide box office.

Pacific Rim 2 will be storming into movie theaters everywhere on April 7, 2017!

The original film was a global box office hit and starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman.

“The characters I love will return,” director Guillermo del Toro told BuzzFeed in a new statement. “Raleigh (Hunnam), Mako (Kikuchi), Newt (Day), Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau (Perlman) – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

It is not clear yet if the original cast will return for the sequel, but it is also unlikely that they would not reprise their roles.

Charlie Hunnam talks about his new film Pacific Rim while making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday (July 17) in Burbank, Calif.

The 33-year-old actor told Jay that his suit had a pee flap that was roomy enough to store things like his pack of gum!

“One of the worst things about that suit was it takes about a half an hour to get on and half an hour to get back off, so if you need to have a pee, you’ve gotta hold production up for a while,” Charlie said. “So, I got through it for the first couple of weeks and said, ‘Come on guys. I mean, I need a pee flap.’”

“So, they gave me one, which was wonderful. There was a little codpiece and you know there’s a button there and you’d flick it up and there’s a zipper underneath,” Charlie added. “It became a secondary function because there’s no pockets in that suit of armor. So I discovered that within the codpiece, now that I had a pee flap, I could store things in there. I’d put my gum [in there].”

Watch what Charlie says when Jay suggest that he could fit things in there because he wasn’t able to fill up the crotch area well!
