“Overall it was a grim weekend for the North American theaters as revenue tumbled 93 percent compared to the same weekend a year ago due to the ongoing pandemic and no new wide releases. WW84 took in an estimated $3 million for a domestic cume of $32.6 million, according to Warner Bros. Overseas, WW84 grossed $4.7 million for a foreign tally of $98.8 million and a muted $131.4 million globally,” the outlet reported.

The film, which is also available on HBO Max for the next 21 days, faced a 67% drop over the previous week, pulling in $28.5 million total at the domestic box office.

“From that kind of drop, it sounds like whatever moviegoing public exists out there finally got the message that they can see the movie at a cheaper price for the family at home on HBO Max. Warners has yet to provide hard numerical details on the spike in subscribers or viewership for WW1984, the outlet reported.

“Box office analysts believe the Patty Jenkins movie will fizzle at around $40M in a domestic marketplace where 60% of all 5.5K theaters are closed,” they added of the theater closures amid the pandemic.

HBO Max is also facing some streaming glitches, especially for the Roku device.

Regardless, fans should be excited: a third Wonder Woman movie is officially on the way!

Find out if you need to stick around for the end credits.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich in a statement.

The movie, which debuted simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, “opened to an estimated $16.7 million domestically at the Christmas box office, the best weekend debut since the novel coronavirus began, according to Warner Bros. Any sign of moviegoing is welcome news for Hollywood even if WW84 scored the lowest number in decades for a yuletide winner. The film unfurled in 2,150 cinemas domestically on Dec. 25. Globally, the DC superhero sequel has now earned $85 million at the box office,” THR reported.

Did you know that there is also a very special cameo in the movie? We have all of the details! And find out if you should stick around after the credits for another scene!

Patty Jenkins Reveals Her True Feelings About 'Wonder Woman' Ending

Patty Jenkins isn’t holding back.

The Wonder Woman 1984 director got candid about the ending of the 2017 Wonder Woman film in an interview with IGN.

During the interview, she revealed that the original ending of the 2017 movie differed from what Warner Bros. forced her to include.

“The original end of the first movie was also smaller but the studio made me change it at the last minute. And so, that’s always been a little bit of a bummer that that’s the one thing people talk about because I agreed and I told the studio we didn’t have time to do it, but it was what it was. I ended up loving it, but that was not the original ending of the movie,” she said.

“This time around, you know what I loved about it? I love that it has both at the end. We had visual effects, a big battle, which I just dug into and had such a blast executing, which I felt so satisfied with. But ultimately the end of the movie is much more pared down. That was really, really fun. No spoilers, there’s all kinds of stuff going on, but it was really fun to shape it differently,” she said of the sequel’s ending.

She also revealed her issues with the movie’s original release date.

Patty Jenkins Reveals Her Issues with 'Wonder Woman 1984's Original Release Date

Wonder Woman 1984 is finally being released this week and the film’s director Patty Jenkins is opening up how the movie was originally dated for release an entire year ago.

In a new interview with The New York Times, Patty revealed that she had to fight with the studio to get the movie pushed back to summer 2020 from the original release date in late 2019.

“I never wanted it to come out in the winter. I was fighting the studio because we were supposed to come out summer of 2020, and then they didn’t have a big movie for 2019,” Patty said. “I was in the middle of making a limited series, and all of a sudden they announced that they had moved up the release date by seven months, which was going to give me way less time to make the movie than I had for Wonder Woman. I was saying, ‘You guys, why would you guarantee I can’t make as good of a film by making it too quick?’”

“So we argued about that all year, and I had to drop out of doing a whole limited series and only do the first two episodes, and just race to write an 80-page treatment at the same time as I’m trying to direct the show,” she added. “We finally got lucky that it got moved back. It would have been a much worse movie if it had come out then.”

The limited series that Patty is talking about is the TNT show I Am the Night, which starred Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine.

Patty Jenkins Opens Up About Almost Walking Away From 'Wonder Woman 1984' For This Reason

Patty Jenkins is opening up about how she almost walked away from directing Wonder Woman 1984.

During her appearance on MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the -year-old director opened up about how she nearly walked off the set over a pay dispute where she wasn’t being paid equal to what her male counterparts were.

“I totally did [come close to walking away],” Patty shared. “I started to walk away. I was going to walk away. I even said, ‘I would be happy to go to another studio and make a quarter as much because it’s not a sequel on principle. No problem.”

She continued, “It’s interesting as someone who never made any profit in my career up until Wonder Woman, that I was always at peace with it. I was like, ‘Hey I get it.’ But now I was like, ‘Listen, I never made any money in my career because you always had the leverage and I didn’t.’ But now the shoe is on the other foot so it’s time to turn the tables.”

Patty added that her male peers “got paid seven times more than me for the first superhero movie. Then on the second one, they got paid more than me still.”

“It was an easy fight to say, ‘This can’t be. It super can’t be. And it really can’t be on ‘Wonder Woman.’ It was an interesting thing to do, but it was an easy thing to do in the fact I was dead serious.”

Patty added, “If I can’t be victorious in this regard, then I’m letting everyone down,” adding, “And if not me, who? So it became something I became very, very, very passionate about.”

The raise that she finally got made Patty the highest paid female director in Hollywood at the time.

Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, and on the same day will be available on HBO Max.
