Tributes are already pouring in for Brazilian soccer legend Pelé after it was confirmed that he passed away at the age of 82. One of the most emotional was shared by the late star’s daughter.

On Thursday (December 29), it was revealed that the unforgettable professional athlete passed away after undergoing months of treatments for colon cancer. He was diagnosed in September 2021 and hospitalized late last year.

Shortly after the news was confirmed, Pelé‘s daughter Kely Nascimento took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute to her father accompanied by what appears to be a photo of the family together.

Pelé, the Brazilian soccer legend, has sadly passed away at the age of 82.

The news was confirmed to the AP by the star’s manager Joe Fraga, and his death comes following a colon cancer diagnosis that Pelé has been treating since September 2021.

He spent some time in the hospital late last year, and his daughter confirmed that he was hospitalized again this November.

Pelé has hospitalized amid his battle with cancer.

On Wednesday (November 30), ESPN Brasil reported that the 82-year-old Brazilian soccer legend had been admitted to the Sao Paolo Hospital Albert Einstein with “generalized swelling” and was undergoing several tests for more in-depth assessment of his health issues.

After the news broke, Pelé‘s daughter Kely Nascimento released a statement on her father’s condition.

The opening ceremony for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics is set to be a massive spectacle and we can’t wait to see what the committee has planned!

As with past Olympics, the opening ceremony will feature stars native to the home country, this year being Brazil.

A recognizable face that you can expect to see is supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who is reportedly set to walk down a runway and get fake “mugged” for a skit.

Soccer legend Pele was scheduled to light the flame at the end of the night while his new song “Esperanca” played, but he just announced that he will be unable to attend due to his health.

Other Brazilian musicians set to perform include Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Paulinho da Viola.

Robert De Niro meets up with Pele at the premiere of Pele: Birth of a Legend during the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival at BMCC John Zuccotti Theater on Saturday (April 23) in New York City.

The two joined actor Diego Boneta at the movie’s premiere.

Pele: Birth of a Legend centers on Pele‘s meteoric rise from the slums of Sao Paulo to leading Brazil to its first World Cup victory at the age of 17.

Diego stars as Jose in the biographical drama, alongside Vincent D’Onofrio and Rodrigo Santoro.
