“Last week, the sports world lost a shining light with the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant. I was lucky to call Kobe my friend. Our careers overlapped almost identically. We even retired within just a few months of each other. I remember meeting him for the first time in the Lakers locker room in 1999. We immediately recognized mutual appreciation for what it took to do our jobs well,” he said.

“His sport was different, but the way that Kobe prepared, the way that he analyzed the game, that was very familiar. Kobe loved not just basketball but all sports. He was a superstar and a fan. A huge admirer of his hometown Philadelphia Eagles. Kobe gave a pep talk to the team before a playoff game the year they won the Super Bowl,” he continued.

“The NFL joins the country and the world in mourning the loss of nine individuals who left their own indelible imprint on the lives of many. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with their families. May God’s peace be with all of them and I sure do miss my friend Kobe Bryant.”

Many sports stars are honoring the late NBA legend. Here’s what another superstar said…

Drew Brees Breaks Peyton Manning's Record for Most Touchdown Passes in NFL History

Peyton Manning has been dethroned – by Drew Brees!

The 40-year-old New Orleans Saints quarterback officially surpassed the 43-year-old former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback’s record for most career touchdown passes in NFL history on Monday (December 16).

Drew made his third scoring pass of the night (a 5-yard pass to tight end Josh Hill during the third quarter), and 540th overall, beating the Colts by 34-7.

Peyton Manning retired following the 2015 season with 539 passing touchdowns.

Drew also made NFL history with a 96.7 completion percentage.

“Listen, it was special, everything about the night,” Drew Brees said (via ESPN). “I don’t know how they pick ‘em. Monday Night Football, playing the Colts, the team that we won the Super Bowl against 10 years ago. So the whole Super Bowl XLIV team is back for the 10th anniversary. And obviously national television, big game, and now that record in the balance as well. It just kind of makes you shake your head. ‘Are you kidding me?’”
