Natalie Portman is opening up about the process of getting into character for her role as Jackie Kennedy in her hit film Jackie.
The 35-year-old pregnant actress is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2017 SAG Awards for her work in the biographical drama.
Natalie says picking up the late Jackie‘s distinct dialect took a little work, explaining that it was part “20th century Long Island girl” and part “high-class finishing school.” (via the Los Angeles Times)
While she was born in Long Island, Natalie joked, “But I could still use some finishing.”
Natalie revealed that she took a break from practicing the accent sometimes, though.
“It’s confusing to me when people are like, ‘I just stay in character all the time,’” she shared. “I can’t get away with that with my family. They’d just laugh at me.”
