Princes William & Harry Hadn't Seen Princess Diana in Almost a Month When She Died

Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry are continuing to open up about their beloved mother, the late Princess Diana, ahead of the documentary for ITV and HBO, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.

In the clip, Prince Harry is speaking with Zarko Peric and Malic Bradaric, two landmine victims who met with Princess Diana before she died.

“You guys were the almost the last people to see my mother,” Prince Harry said. “Well, you saw my mother more recently than I did, I guess.” He revealed that it had been weeks since they’d seen their mother.

The two young sons were in Balmoral, Scotland in the weeks before their mother’s death with their father Prince Charles and other members of the royal family.

“There was the point where our parents split and . . . we never saw our mother enough or we never saw our father enough,” he continued. “There was a lot of traveling and lot of fights on the back seat with my brother – which I would win…There was all that to contend with. And – I don’t pretend we’re the only people to have to deal with that, but it was an interesting way of growing up.”

Prince Harry also recalled the last time he spoke to his mother.

Prince Harry Tragically Recalls the Last Conversation He Had with the Late Princess Diana

Princes William and Harry are taking part in an intimate documentary for ITV and HBO titled Our Mother Diana: Her Life and Legacy, celebrating the life of their late mother Princess Diana on the 20th anniversary of her death.

Along with sharing personal new photos of the Princess, Prince Harry spoke about the last time he spoke to his mother before her death. It was a phone call, and he was only 12 years old.

“And if I’d known that that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother the things that I would – the things I would have said to her,” Prince Harry says in the documentary.

“We won’t speak as openly and as publicly about her again,” Prince William adds. “We feel hopefully this film will provide the other side from her close family friends that you might not have heard from before, from those who knew her best, and from those who want to protect her memory and want to remind people of the person that she was: The warmth, the humor, and what she was like as a mother, which probably hasn’t come across before in many other pieces from other people.”

The documentary will air on August 31.
