The film is based on the hit West End stage musical, which will be touring around the United States starting in January 2022.

The movie adaptation of the popular West End musical is set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video, Variety reported Thursday (May 20).
The movie was originally set to premiere in theaters on October 23 of last year, but the pandemic pushed back those plans.
Amazon bought distribution rights for “an undisclosed sum,” according to the report.
The movie will now premiere on September 17 in over 240 countries and territories.

Jamie New is 16 and doesn’t quite fit in—instead of pursuing a ‘real’ career he dreams of becoming a drag queen. The stage production’s director, Jonathan Butterell, makes his feature-film debut as director, with screenplay and lyrics by Tom MacRae, songs by Dan Gillespie Sells and a score composed by Sells and Anne Dudley.
