Fidel Castro, the former president of Cuba, died on Friday night (November 25) at age 90.
The Cuban leader’s death was confirmed to the Associated Press by his younger brother Raul, who serves as the current president of the country.
The exact cause of his death has not been revealed.
Fidel ruled Cuba as a one-party state for almost 50 years before transitioning power to Raul in 2008 after facing health issues.
The controversial president was last seen in April when he gave rare speech on the final day of the country’s Communist Party congress.
