Ex-'Power Rangers' Star Sentenced to Six Years for Stabbing Roommate With Sword

Former Power Rangers star Ricardo Medina Jr. has been sentenced to six years in prison for killing his roommate Joshua Sutter with a sword two years ago.

The 38-year-old actor was sentenced on Thursday (March 30) in a courtroom in Lancaster, Calif.

Ricardo originally claimed he was acting in self-defense. When new evidence showed he was lying, Ricardo pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and then guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Ricardo and Josh were reportedly in an argument and when Ricardo retreated to his bedroom, Josh forced his way inside. Ricardo retaliated by stabbing him.

Ricardo played the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger on Power Rangers Wild Force and, later, the voice of Deker on Power Rangers Samurai.

'Power Ranger' Ricardo Medina Jr. Denies Killing His Roommate With a Sword

Former Power Ranger star Ricardo Medina Jr. denied killing his roommate with a sword at his arraignment on Friday (September 30), according to People.

The 36-year-old actor pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in the 2015 death of his roommate Josh Sutter.

Ricardo and Josh were reportedly in an argument and when Ricardo retreated to his bedroom, Josh forced his way inside. Ricardo retaliated by stabbing him once in the abdomen.

Ricardo was arrested after the crime but was let go after claiming self-defense. He was re-arrested in early 2016 after new evidence showed he was lying.

If convinced, Ricardo faces up to 26 years to life in prison.

Power Rangers Samurai actor Ricardo Medina, Jr. has been re-arrested for the murder of his roommate Josh Sutter after allegedly stabbing him with a Conan the Barbarian sword multiple times last year.

The 38-year-old actor claimed self-defense last year, and was let go by the police. But evidence now suggests that Ricardo was lying as they have found defensive wounds on his roommate, suggesting he was attacked, TMZ reports. Ricardo also claimed he ran into his room during the attack, but most of the blood was outside of his room.

He has been charged with one count of murder, and could face 26 years in prison if convicted.

'Power Ranger' Ricardo Medina Jr. Released, Not Charged With Murder Yet Following Stabbing

Ricardo Medina Jr. has been released after being arrested for stabbing his former roommate Joshua Sutter to death, according to TMZ.

The 37-year-old Power Ranger actor will not be charged with murder yet, since the L.A. County D.A.’s Office is trying to investigate the stabbing incident.

Ricardo claimed that he stabbed Joshua in self-defense when Joshua barged into his bedroom at their home in Palmdale, Calif. over the weekend.

Investigators are still waiting on toxicology results on Joshua to determine if he was using drugs or alcohol at the time of his death.
