The social media company has deleted millions of accounts that were either spam, inactive, or didn’t follow company guidelines.

“We’re in the process of fixing an issue that incorrectly includes inactive or fake accounts in follower/following lists. We want to maintain the best possible experience on Instagram, so we do our best to remove spam, fake accounts and other people and posts that don’t follow our Community Guidelines. As we remove these accounts, some people may notice a decrease in their follower/following counts,” the company announced in a statement this week. Celebrities React to Instagram's New Terms of Service; Company Changes Plans After Backlash

Celebrities are sounding off on Twitter today after Instagram announced a new policy change in which they will have the right to sell every user’s photos without giving any compensation to the photographer.

The company was quick to respond to the outrage with a message from co-founder Kevin Systrom, who said a newer update will take place in 30 days.

“Our intention in updating the terms was to communicate that we’d like to experiment with innovative advertising that feels appropriate on Instagram,” says Systrom. “Instead it was interpreted by many that we were going to sell your photos to others without any compensation. This is not true and it is our mistake that this language is confusing.”
