Former Indianapolis Colts football player Zurlon Tipton has died after he accidentally shot himself.
The 26-year-old former NFL star was at a car dealership in Michigan on Tuesday (June 28) when he reached into a bag to grab something, but accidentally hit the trigger on one of the two guns inside. The gun shot Tipton in the stomach.
While Tipton was alert and interacting with people following the tragic accident, he died at the hospital due to his injuries.
“A gentleman … brought a vehicle into our service department between 9 and 9:30 this morning,” the dealership’s general manager Mark DeMara told The Detroit News. “He had a transmission leak in his vehicle. At some point he reached into a duffel bag that was on the passenger seat of his vehicle and the pistol that was in there deployed and shot the gentleman in the abdomen.”
We send our thoughts and condolences to Zurlon‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
