Kyle Jean-Baptiste has sadly passed away at age 21 after tragically falling off his mom’s fire escape.
The young actor had been starring in the Broadway production of Les Miserables as an ensemble member and an understudy to Jean Valjean, the role Hugh Jackman played in the movie.
Kyle made history just weeks ago when he became the youngest person and also the first African-American man to play Jean Valjean on Broadway.
“The entire Les Miserables family is shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable young talent and tremendous person who made magic – and history – in his Broadway debut,” a rep for the show told BroadwayWorld.com in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their privacy in this unimaginably difficult time.”
