Sam Taylor-Johnson has landed the coveted position as the director of the highly anticipated film Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the bestselling book by EL James, according to Deadline.
The 46-year-old director, whose only feature length credit is the 2009 film Nowhere Boy starring her 23-year-old husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will direct with a script by fellow Brit Kelly Marcel.
“Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life,” producer Michael De Luca said in a statement. “EL James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit.”
No word yet on who will be playing the pivotal roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. EL James will be producing alongside Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca, who worked together on the Oscar-nominated film The Social Network.
