Sam Taylor-Johnson Opens Up About Age Gap With Husband Aaron: 'It Works Better Than My Last Marriage'

Sam Taylor-Johnson is opening up about her marriage to husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The 50-year-old director and the 27-year-old actor have been married since 2012 and share two children but their age difference has raised eyebrows.

“If I gave a second thought to other people, I would be the unhappiest person, probably still in a miserable marriage,” Sam told THR.

She added, “People like to talk about it. I’m like, ‘Yeah, but it works better than my last marriage.’ It’s lasted longer than a lot of my friends’ marriages.”

Sam added that she even wants to work with Aaron and that the couple are finishing a screenplay that she would direct and he would star.

“We’re already a team. We are already parents that run our house, so when we work together it’s the best,” Aaron explained.

Sam Taylor-Johnson Opens Up About Fights with 'Fifty Shades' Author E.L. James

Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, is giving further insight into her rocky relationship with the book’s author E.L. James.

It’s no secret that the two ladies clashed on the set of the film and Sam says it’s because they had “two different creative visions.”

“Her vision versus mine, and they were polar opposite,” Sam says in a new interview with THR. “Every scene was fought over. It was tough. It was like wading uphill through sticky tar. Her thing was, ‘This is what the fans expect.’ I’d be like, ‘Well, let’s try and hit those marks but create a new universe at the same time.’”

Sam, who just directed the new series Gypsy for Netflix, says she didn’t get much love from Hollywood after the film was released.

“There weren’t any flat-out [job] offers straight away,” she said. “It was ego-denting, which may not have been a bad thing. At the same time, I was like, ‘Oh, I still have to keep fighting for stuff.’ I just thought it was going to come a lot easier.”

In another recent interview, Sam explained why she will not watch the sequels to her film.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Director Sam Taylor-Johnson Will Not Watch the Sequels

It’s no secret that Sam Taylor-Johnson did not get along with author/producer E.L. James on the set of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey.

Sam, who became the female director with the biggest opening weekend at the time when the movie was released, clashed with Erika about their visions for the film and the director did not return for the sequels.

Now, Sam says she has “no interest” in watching the sequels, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.

“I have literally zero interest,” she told Sunday Times Magazine in a new interview. “I can never say I regret it because that would just finish me off – would I go through it again? I’d be mad.”

“I like everyone and I get really confused when they don’t like me – I don’t understand when I can’t navigate a person… when there’s no synergy,” she added about her on-set relationship with James.

James Foley took the helm of Fifty Shades of Darker and the franchise’s third film, Fifty Shades Freed.
