'Charmed' Team Explains How Reboot Explores Current Issues

Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz, and Madeleine Mantock pose for a photo while attending The Paley Center’s PaleyFest Fall TV Preview event for Charmed on Saturday (September 8) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The actresses opened up about the upcoming The CW reboot.

The show’s co-executive producer Jessica O’Toole says that the show will take time to “organically show the women handling current issues, without lecturing the audience. Even before the election, we always wanted to explore that link between strong women and witchcraft.”

Madeleine said the show is tackling these issues “because in this day and age you have to be upfront about which side you’re on,” according to Variety.

It’s no secret that original cast member Holly Marie Combs is not supportive of the reboot, but the cast hopes she’ll give it a chance.

“Of course, you can’t help but feel disappointed because I think the script is fantastic,” Madeleine said (via EW). “I really hope maybe she’ll see it and like it.”

“I think that there’s also a lot of positive stuff coming out, too, and I think that we’ve collectively made the decision to focus on that,” Melonie added.

“We come in peace. I think the original was so wonderful, and they were really trailblazers and we could not be here without them,” Madeleine said during the panel (via IndieWire).

“There are core similarities with the original show… I hope [fans] embrace it… We want to honor it properly while bringing a modern twist. Just — come with us, see if you like it,” Sarah added.

Sarah Jeffery Snaps Back at 'Charmed' Reboot Haters With a Positive Message

Sarah Jeffery has an inspiring message for critics of her new Charmed reboot series.

The 22-year-old Shades of Blue actress spoke out about the CW show on Twitter on Saturday (May 26).

“I’M ONLY GOING TO GO HERE ONCE,” she began. “I fully understand how dear the OG Charmed is to many. For very, very good reason. We are so beyond grateful to have the opportunity to bring this reboot to life and bring current, timely themes to the forefront of a show that stars not one, not two, but THREE WOC!!! We regard the foundation that was laid with great respect.”

“But, when my character is challenged, when there is futile yet harmful noise about how we are either incapable or doomed, I will vociferously defend myself and my sisters,” she continued. “The original Charmed will always stay very much intact and will always be widely respected. I invite you to come on this journey with us to discover more stories within the universe. I also respect your declination. But please, let’s show up for one another in favorable ways and be kind with our opinions.”

“I know our show will have a positive effect on so many women, youth, and anyone who is receptive to being on the right side of history,” she finished.
