Today's Savannah Guthrie Responds to Troll Who Called Her On-Air Hair 'Distracting'

Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie responded to some criticism on Twitter and was as classy as ever about it.

Earlier this week, Savannah and her co-anchor Al Roker reunited for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic for a remote broadcast together from Hudson, New York.

“@SavannahGuthrie Cmon. With what they pay you, can’t you afford a hair stylist? I love the natural unkempt look but its distracting on @NBCNews national news,” a follower tweeted at her.

Savannah responded directly to the Twitter user, responding, “We are all doing our own hair and makeup during the pandemic. And yes it shows!”

Savannah Guthrie To Film 'Today' From Her Basement Due To A 'Super Mild' Sore Throat

Savannah Guthrie will be reporting from home when you turn on Today this week.

The 48-year-old anchor and attorney will be staying home after coming down with a mild sore throat, and THR reports that NBC News president Noah Oppenheim also released an email to staff telling them to follow her lead if they also presented with any kind of symptoms.

“Well, this will be a first,” Savannah shared on social media. “I’m going to be anchoring Today from my house! In an abundance of caution, and to model the super vigilance the CDC has asked of all of us, I’m staying home because I have a mild sore throat and runny nose.”

She continued, “This was the advice of NBC’s superb medical team and my bosses. I feel good and am sure I will be back in no time — but during these days, it’s on all of us to be extra cautious and caring of those around us. #loveyourneighbor So see you tomorrow on TODAY – from my basement!”

Earlier in the week, Savannah‘s co-workers, Al Roker and Craig Melvin, were also social distancing themselves after one staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

“This is my ‘out of office’ message. Turns out I had to have surgery today because I had a massive tear in my retina and retina detachment. I am home resting for a while. Very grateful to my doctors, prayers of good friends and my husband @feldmike who has swooped in like a superhero,” she wrote on Instagram on Thursday (December 12) along with a note from her daughter that says “nobody can come into my mommy’s room.”

“A week ago I was worried about having to have surgery and got this text from my mom. It was two days before Charley’s bday. Mom perspectives are the best perspectives. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and good wishes. Things are looking up! I mean I’m not (looking up), but things are ❤️❤️❤️. Hope to SEE everybody soon!!” she added a day later on Friday (December 13).

Savannah Guthrie Suffered an Eye Injury After Son Threw Toy Truck at Her

Savannah Guthrie has been missing from The Today Show this week and now she’s explaining her absence from the show.

The 47-year-old anchor suffered an eye injury after her two-year-old son Charley threw a toy truck with a pointy edge at her and hit her eye.

Charley threw a toy train right at my eye and it tore my retina,” Savannah said while calling into the show on Wednesday morning (November 27). “It happened last week actually, and then I lost my vision in my right eye about 24 hours later, and then it turned out to be kind of serious. They were afraid my retina was detached, so they told me to just take it easy.”

Savannah said that doctors have been giving her laser treatments to avoid surgery. She said, “They’re essentially trying to weld back this tear in the retina very carefully, and really trying hard to avoid the retina detaching and avoid having to do a major surgery.”

An emergency procedure happened on Monday after Savannah went to work and wasn’t able to see much in that eye.

“At first they didn’t think it had worked, and it looked like I was gonna have to have this surgery, but now it’s looking more hopeful, and I’m actually still hoping I can do the [Macy's Thanksgiving] parade tomorrow,” she said. “I’m not supposed to jump up and down or anything because it’s kind of like literally hanging by a thread. But I’m very positive because I think it’s gonna be OK.”
