Lauren Graham & Scott Patterson Had To Do This To Keep Up With 'Gilmore Girls' Speedy Dialogue

Gilmore Girls is pretty famous for its really fast and speedy dialogue in the show, and in a new interview with the NY Times, the cast touches on just how speedy it really was.

“This was a show where if you changed one word, they would cut,” Yanic Truesdale, who played Michel, revealed in the feature.

Keiko Agena, who played Lane, echoed him, revealing that the feedback she always got “was, ‘That was great. Could we do it again, just a little bit faster?’”

Apparently, George Bell, the show’s dialogue coach, would ask guest performers to “Gilmore-ize” their performances, aka, “Speed it up. You’ve just got to speed it up.”

Scott Patterson, who played Luke in the long running series and Netflix limited movie, even revealed that the speedy scripts prompted him and lead Lauren Graham to give up smoking.

“She needed her wind, and I needed my wind,” he explained, before revealing that rewrites on the already super long script (they were typically 20 pages longer than the norm), were turned around fast too.

He recalled one particular shooting day began with “a 10-page scene that came out of the writers room at 6:30 a.m.”

“Lauren and I were sitting in the makeup chair,” he shared. “We looked at each other with this abject terror, and then we got to work.”

'Gilmore Girls' Revival Could Be Getting More New Episodes on Netflix!

The Gilmore Girls Netflix revival may be getting more new episodes!

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos said they are in “very preliminary” talks with Gilmore Girls creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino to create more new episodes after the revival from November ended in a major cliffhanger.

“We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped,” Ted said (via THR), adding “the worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more, and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that.”

Lauren Graham's 'Gilmore Girls' TV Mom Kelly Bishop Totally Predicted Her Relationship With Peter Krause!

Lauren Graham‘s Gilmore Girls on-screen mother Kelly Bishop totally knew she would end up being with Peter Krause!

“From the start of the show, Kelly named herself my TVM, or TV mom, by which she meant she was taking her character’s role seriously, beyond the pages or sets and out into the real world,” the 49-year-old actress reveals in her new memoir, “Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between)“.

“In a maternal, protective way, she found most of my boyfriends at the time lacking, and once told me I needed someone who was more my equal, like ‘that wonderful actor on Six Feet Under,’” Lauren added (via ET).

Peter, 51, starred in Six Feet Under as Nate Fisher from 2001 to 2005, before joining Lauren in Parenthood in 2010. They’ve been together ever since.

“At our age we’d probably both been through ‘showmances’ that went south and made work an uncomfortable place to be,” Lauren explains in the book. “But ultimately, our mutual wariness gave way — it just sort of happened.”

Lauren and Kelly got together with their co-stars Alexis Bledel and Scott Patterson at a special screening and Q&A panel for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life last night (November 29) at AMC Theater Time Square in New York City.
