Charlize Theron Denies She Was Engaged to Sean Penn, Clarifies Details About Their Relationship

Charlize Theron is speaking out to clarify the extent of her relationship with ex Sean Penn.

There were rumors that the couple had gotten engaged, but the Oscar-winning actress says that is not true.

“What? That’s not true. no. I did not ‘almost get married to Sean,’ that’s such bulls–t,” Charlize said in an interview on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. “No, we dated, that was literally all we did, we dated.”

“It was a relationship, for sure. We were definitely exclusive, but it was for barely a year. We never moved in. I was never going to marry him. It was nothing like that,” Charlize added.

The couple started dating in 2013 and reports surfaced in 2015 that they had called it quits.

Stern asked if she has ever felt lonely or if she’s ever thought about getting married.

“I never wanted to get married. That’s never been something that’s important to me,” Charlize said. “On the lives of my children, I’ve never been lonely. I’ve never felt alone.”

“My life right now just doesn’t allow a lot of room for something like that to happen. But in saying that, there’s not this thing that drives me [to have a romantic relationship],” she said (via People). “I enjoy being set up on dates but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to live with somebody again. To be totally frank, they might have to buy the house next to me. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal with that ever again, I’m too old for that s–t.”

Charlize has a very exciting movie coming out in just a couple weeks.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sean recalled his audition for Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Jimmy had heard the story that Sean “came in for the audition, and I think you said, ‘I’m not gonna audition. I know who Spicoli is. So, if you want — if you want to see him, you have to hire me.’ Is that true?”

Sean confirmed that “it’s mostly true.”

“The way I remember it was that I — long before I had a penny in my pocket, had a kind of feeling of entitlement as an actor, not because I thought I was so good, but because I thought the rest were not so good,” he recalled. “That gave me an awful lot of confidence, and I read this part, and I just said, ‘I know this thing.’”

Sean continued that he was terrible at all his auditions: I was terrible at it and self-conscious. I thought, I need the mask of it being a job to get the music in me and go. So, I just wanted them to just give it to me, trust me, ‘Don’t they know what’s going on inside here by osmosis?’

“I auditioned, and it was terrible and flat, and I knew I wasn’t willing to hit the kind of music of this character that I thought it was and had familiarity with, too…so, they dismissed me, and I left.”

Check out his interview below to see how Sean ultimately won the role!

During the chat, Howard Stern brought up Sean‘s speech while accepting the Academy Award for Milk, in which he referred to being “difficult.”

“There’ve been several times I’ve worked with directors who I felt might have found a different job description, and perhaps weren’t the storytellers that their initial meetings with each of us actors might have indicated. Actors are kind of canaries in the coalmine emotionally, and you have to go to whatever place is necessary inside yourself. If you don’t have somebody there who at least respects that – most of what I was referring to is that the arrogance goes further than charm. I am aware that I can be a difficult person to like from afar often. I sometimes think I have a great love affair with humanity, but not too good about humans,” he said.

Sean also addressed his romantic life.

“Am I difficult? Yeah, I think so…I will say that I’m a person who feels them and expresses them energetically, that has misled people to think that I think it’s all about me. I think that the energy you’re talking about would be with a lady named Leila George. She knows me better than I do on this level. That doesn’t mean that I agree with her perceptions, but I certainly find them fascinating.”

In April, it was revealed that Sean‘s nonprofit organization while be expanding their free testing sites.

Sean Penn's Nonprofit CORE Is Expanding Free Coronavirus Testing Sites

Sean Penn pulls on the sides of his mask after picking up some items from a local eatery in Los Angeles over the weekend.

It was just announced that CORE, the nonprofit organization founded by the 59-year-old actor, will be expanding its’ free testing sites for coronavirus into Detroit, New Orleans, and Atlanta.

“This is right now an active shooter scenario, the virus is. And its principal focus is on people of color, the elderly, the indigenous,” Sean shared with CBS This Morning. “But it doesn’t really care who else is in the way.”

He continued about the expansion into the three major cities in other states, “Our biggest ambition is to be the, or one of the, models that’s replicable. This is not like building a business where you have ambitions of being number one. The idea is to, as quickly as possible, be a loud, visible example of what others can do.”

“We need a really accurate picture of how much testing is happening nationally,” Sean added.

Just recently, Sean was pictured getting a coronavirus test himself at one of the sites in LA.

Sean Penn & LA Mayor Eric Garcetti Speak About Teaming Up For COVID-19 Testing Stations

Sean Penn and Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, have opened up in a new interview about teaming up for COVID-19 coronavirus testing stations that were set up with Sean‘s organization, CORE.

“This is a very unique situation for us,” the actor shared during a press conference this week, via THR. “While we had some great touchstones within governance, we have never experienced such an extraordinary holistic leadership.”

Sean continued, “What that means for an organization like ours, to be able to have the leadership of Mayor Garcetti and the Los Angeles Fire Department, is that with their faith and their training, we are able to mobilize very quickly. This is what I hope will be a model in terms of the governance and NGO and community foundation partnerships that can be replicated, not only in city of Los Angeles and throughout California, but ultimately throughout the country.”

“It’s going to be part of our job to take lessons learned from the Mayor’s Office and the Los Angeles Fire Department and be able to animate that message beyond.”

During the conference Mayor Garcetti offered daily updates about the pandemic in Los Angeles and shared his gratitude for CORE’s help with the testing stations.

“The number of tests we did yesterday was a third of the entire state of California,” Garcetti said. “We get the job done and we do it ahead of schedule.”

He went on to thank Sean for his involvement: “God bless you for the work that you’re doing.”

Just last week, Sean was spotted helping out one of the testing stations.
