Sesame Street has found a new home in HBO!
According to THR, the long-running children’s show will begin airing new episodes on HBO in the late fall, with a total of five new seasons.
The deal also includes licensing to over 150 past hours of the show and a spin-off Sesame Street Muppet series, which will be produced by HBO.
Meanwhile, Sesame Street will continue to air on PBS and any new episodes by HBO will “be made available to PBS and its member stations after a nine-month window.”
“Our new partnership with HBO represents a true winning public-private partnership model,” Sesame Workshop CEO Jeffrey D. Dunn said in a statement. “It provides Sesame Workshop with the critical funding it needs to be able to continue production of Sesame Street and secure its nonprofit mission of helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder.”
