Jessica Chastain and Shailene Woodley glam up for the Women In Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party held at Cecconi’s Restaurant on Friday (February 24) in Los Angeles.

Jessica, who rocked a pink Elie Saab dress and Christian Louboutin heels, and Shai, 20, in Honor, were joined at the event by Viola Davis!

“A friend took a photo of my face when I was getting the call and tweeted it out,” Jessica told THR about the moment she found out about her 2012 Oscar nomination. “It’s the ugliest photo of me but I love it because it totally captures that moment of surprise and happiness.”

Later in the evening, Jessica attended the Vanity Fair and Richard Mille celebration of Martin Scorsese in support of The Film Foundation at the Hotel Bel-Air.

The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley slips into a chic Bird by Juicy Couture jumpsuit to host the 20th Anniversary party for Vanity Fair‘s “Vanities” held at Hollywood’s Siren Studios on Monday night (February 20).

The 20-year-old actress was supported at the invitation-only reception by her co-stars from The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Daren Kagasoff and Renee Olstead.

The chic event was hosted by Shailene and Vanity Fair West Coast Editor Krista Smith, who has curated the “Vanities” section for over a decade. (Every month, the first page of VF‘s Vanities section features an up-and-coming actor with a hotly anticipated project in the pipeline.)

The evening was also in support of Shai‘s nonprofit organization, All It Takes, which focuses on environmental integrity, youth leadership, and health awareness, and provides the tools, opportunities, and education needed to generate the momentum for meaningful change.

Shailene Woodley looks stunning on the cover of Malibu magazine’s latest issue.

Here’s what the 20-year-old star of The Descendants had to share:

On taking acting classes: “I think a lot of people still go to acting classes. I go for my own benefit. I feel like I become a stronger person from acting class. When you do improv exercises, it helps your brain function quicker. When you do scenes, you learn a different color of yourself, and you get to explore different emotions. I’m really lucky, too; the class I go to, everybody’s very close. It’s like a family. It’s a very safe environment in order to dive into some crazy scenes and be vulnerable.”

On whether she loves to dress up: “No, I’m not a girlie girl at all. I never wear dresses. I’m always in either long, baggy skirts that I can still do ‘crisscross applesauce’ in, or blue jeans. I’m very lucky to work with a stylist who cares about fashion, because I don’t at all. And I’m very lucky to have a makeup artist and hair guy who are really good at what they do, because I would go to events with no makeup and no hair and in pajamas if I could.”

On Drew building her confidence: “You are so good at building confidence in me and then I just keep giving you more and in turn you give more and it’s this beautiful cycle and I can honestly say that you and Alexander Payne [the director of The Descendants and Sideways] are pretty much the only two people I have ever worked with who give you that sort of confidence.”

On different modes of expression: “We have lost touch with black and white and silent films and simple long shots. Right now everything is CGI and 3D, which has its place.
And I think everything has its place, but I think it’s exciting to see magazines and films with a different approach because I think people have missed that art and that expression of uniqueness, because everything has been the same for so long.”
