Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, and Laverne Cox step out on the purple carpet at the opening night of Broadway’s The Color Purple on Thursday (December 10) at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City.

Other members of the Orange Is the New Black cast in attendance included Yael Stone, Samira Wiley, Kate Mulgrew, Lea DeLaria, and Selenis Leyva. They were all there to support their co-star Danielle Brooks, who is one of the leads in the musical.

Several other stars were seen supporting the show, including Tony winners Neil Patrick Harris and Patina Miller, Empire‘s Gabourey Sidibe, and The Wiz Live‘s Shanice Williams.

The producers of The Wiz Live are talking about their plans to bring the show to Broadway next year and if any cast members will be involved.

The telecast was the best-reviewed live musical that NBC has done so far and it brought in 11.5 million viewers, up a significant amount from last year’s Peter Pan Live.

“Right now the plan is to have The Wiz on Broadway a year from now in partnership with Cirque. The entire cast of The Wiz Live knows about the Broadway plans but we didn’t make it a prerequisite when casting them. But over the past couple of weeks, a lot of members of the cast have been sniffing around doing it in the theater,” Neil Meron told THR.

“We’d love for [Shanice Williams] to be on Broadway in The Wiz but that’s to be worked out,” Craig Zadan added.

“Every person that was in the show last night has been invited to come to Broadway. It’s a matter of if they want to and how much time they can give us,” they continued. “And if we can work out a pay scale. Broadway pays differently than doing film, TV and concerts.”

The 19-year-old actress was introduced into the world with her role in the star-studded production and celebs are raving about her work in the show.

Millions of people around the country are currently watching NBC’s The Wiz Live and that includes a ton of celebrities as well!

There are only a couple hours left until NBC’s The Wiz Live airs and we are so excited to see a new vision of the beloved musical.

Newcomer Shanice Williams will be joining a star-studded cast of veteran actors and singers in the production, which is airing live from a sound stage in New York.

The one-night-only special is being directed by Kenny Leon and industry vet Harvey Fierstein adapted the musical’s script for television.

NBC’s The Wiz Live is set to air tonight (December 3) and Shanice Williams, the young woman playing the lead role of Dorothy, is someone you’ll want to get to know!

The 19-year-old newbie’s first professional audition was for the big TV special — and of course, she nailed it!

When asked about the big number “Home” in the musical, Shanice told NBC that she could really connect to playing Dorothy and singing that specific song because of her upbringing.

“I’m from New Jersey. But I went to school in Los Angeles and all across the country. So, I can totally connect with missing Home. So, I put in my head ‘Remember when you were in Los Angeles and missing family and missing this and that?’ It’s super easy to connect with Dorothy…Dorothy and I are the same person. We really are,” Shanice said. Shanice is trained in musical theater and performed in The Wiz in middle, as well as the leading role of Polly in Rahway High School’s Crazy For You!
