Snapchat Apologizes for Ad Featuring Rihanna & Chris Brown

UPDATE: Rihanna has responded to the ad and is slamming Snapchat.

Snapchat featured an advertisement that left many fans very upset.

The ad in question asked users if they would “rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown.” You can see the ad here, which was screencapped by a user who wrote, “Is it just me, or is this ad that popped up on my Snapchat extremely tone deaf? Like what were they thinking with this?”

Snapchat has since responded and told the BBC, “The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened.”

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel Says the App is Too Hard to Use

Evan Spiegel said Snapchat is in the process of a much easier redesign.

The 27-year-old Snap CEO shared during a earnings call on Tuesday (November 7) that the social media app understands that users have found the app to be confusing and difficult to use so they are going to fix that.

“One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback,” Evan said. “As a result, we are currently redesigning our application to make it easier to use.”

Evan went on to say that the company is in the process of redesigning the app to attract new users who find it difficult to use.

Snapchat Launches New Bitmoji Feature With Avicii

Snapchat just launched a brand new feature with a little help from Avicii!

The camera app is now allowing users to do some pretty cool things with their bitmoji, by bringing the custom avatar to life through 3D world lenses.

Users simply click the rear-facing Snapchat camera, tap to place their bitmoji and can create a short animated scene!

To kick off the new feature, the app used Avicii‘s new song “Without You” to allow users to make their bitmoji show off their dance moves!

Bitmojis can also do yoga, drink coffee and skateboard!

Snapchat Launches New Features Including 'Infinity' Snaps & Looping Video

Snapchat just launched a new feature that will change the way you view Snaps!

Users can now send “infinity” Snaps, which means you can set a timer so that friends can view your photos for as long as they’d like.

But the Snaps still disappear once the viewer exits out of the Snap!

In addition to the new timer feature, Snapchat also announced a Magic Eraser, which will allow users to remove unwanted objects from images, and the ability to draw with emojis.

Finally, the company also revealed a new Loop tool for videos so users can decide if a Snap plays once or loops until your friend is ready to tap to the next Snap.

Snapchat Launches New Rewind Feature and World Lenses

Snapchat just changed things up and launched quite a few new features!

The social media company first announced that they would be getting rid of the Auto Advance feature, which forced users to watch Stories back-to-back.

Instead, users can now individually choose which Stories to watch and even use the new Rewind feature to easily re-watch stories! Users simply tap the left side of a Snapchat story to rewind, similar to the same feature on Instagram Stories.

The company also introduced Story Playlist, which gives users an easy way to select the Stories they want to watch and then view them in the order they selected.

Finally, Snapchat unveiled World Lenses, which applies filters to the outside world, instead of just the face filters available for the front-facing camera!

Instagram Launches Stories, CEO Gives Credit to Snapchat

Instagram has announced a brand new feature – Instagram Stories!

The feature works a lot like Snapchat and allows you to share moments to your profile and have them disappear after 24 hours. There will be a bar at the top of your news feed showing you all the stories from people you follow. You are able to send a private comment on a story to your friend, but there are no public comments or likes for stories.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom is giving credit to Snapchat for the new feature.

“They deserve all the credit,” Kevin told TechCrunch. “When you are an innovator, that’s awesome. Just like Instagram deserves all the credit for bringing filters to the forefront. This isn’t about who invented something. This is about a format, and how you take it to a network and put your own spin on it. Facebook invented feed, LinkedIn took on feed, Twitter took on feed, Instagram took on feed, and they all feel very different now and they serve very different purposes. But no one looks down at someone for adopting something that is so obviously great for presenting a certain type of information.”

“And I think what you see is that every company looks around and adopts the best of the best formats or state-of-the-art technology. Snapchat adopted face filters that existed elsewhere first, right? And slideshows existed in other places, too. Flipagram was doing it for a while. So I think that’s the interesting part of the Valley. You can’t just recreate another product. But you can say ‘what’s really awesome about a format? And does it apply to our network?’” Kevin added. “Don’t you think that Snapchat’s done a really awesome job? And Facebook’s done a great job. And Instagram’s done a great job. I think all of these companies have done a great job. Some people invent stuff. We’ve invented things.”

Snapchat Introduces a New Memories Feature

Snapchat is about to introduce a new feature that will let you save some of your favorite Snaps and stories!

Memories, which can be accessed by swiping the camera screen up, is a personal collection of saved Snaps that you can easily find with its search feature!

Users can also create new stories from Snaps you’ve taken or combine full stories into longer narratives!

You’ll even be able to share Snaps from Memories with your friends and post them to your story. If they’re older than 24 hours, Snaps will have a frame around them so people know they’re from the past.

Snapchat will make Memories accessible to users selectively over the next month.
