Solange Knowles Calls Out Grammys' Diversity Problem After Beyonce Loses Album of the Year Again

Solange Knowles is speaking out again to call out the Grammys after her older sister Beyonce lost the award for Album of the Year for her groundbreaking album Lemonade.

The 30-year-old singer, who won her first Grammy last night, previously tweeted a link to Frank Ocean‘s explanation of his Grammys boycott just minutes after Bey lost the award to Adele.

Lemonade is Beyonce‘s third album that has been nominated for Album of the Year.

“there have only been two black winners in the last 20 years for album of the year. there have been over 200 black artist who have performed,” Solange tweeted on Monday afternoon (February 13). “create your own committees, build your own institutions, give your friends awards, award yourself, and be the gold you wanna hold my g’s🌹.”

Adele, who won the top honor this year, even thought that the award should go to Beyonce!

Solange Knowles Seemingly Responds to Beyonce's Grammys Snub for Album of the Year

Solange Knowles took to Twitter to seemingly respond to her sister Beyonce‘s Album of the Year loss at the 2017 Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center on Sunday (February 12) in Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old singer, who won her first Grammy last night in the category for Best R&B Performance for her song “Cranes in the Sky,” tweeted just minutes after Adele won over Beyonce for Album of the Year.

“wuddup frank,” Solange wrote along with a link to Frank Ocean‘s post about why he decided not to submit his albums for Grammy consideration.

Adele swept the top three categories at the Grammys and she didn’t think she deserved the top honor of the night. During her acceptance speech, she tearfully told Bey that she couldn’t “possibly accept this award” and then broke her award in half, seemingly to give a piece to her idol!

Solange Knowles Talks Raising Son Julez as a Teen in Idaho

Solange Knowles rocks some Norma Kamali coats on the cover of Elle magazine’s March 2017 issue, on newsstands February 21.

Here’s what the 30-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag:

On growing up in a house with two of the three Destiny’s Child members: “My sister and Kelly [Rowland] were the same age, which is like a built-in best friend in the house; they were extremely close. Writing felt like this insular thing that I could go back in my room and express all that I would observe, all the emotions that would arise. It felt like mine, my little thing.”

On raising her son in Moscow, Idaho, while still in her teens: “It was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life because I was so in love with Julez, and having spent a lot of time on the road, I yearned to be in one place, to have the opportunity to really ground myself with him. But it was isolating and lonely, and so cold and dark. And it was just Julez and me most of the time. It was hard to imagine being able to progress in my career in any way.”

On her album, Seat at the Table: “I did want to create this juxtaposition, politically, of having these very hard, messy conversations but having them stylistically in a way that you can really hear me, and not the yelling, the rage,” she ruminates. “I wanted to project in my delivery what I was not achieving at all: peace and having a certain lightness and airiness that could maybe help me get closer to having more light and airiness in my life.”

Solange Knowles Gives Honest Assessment of Beyonce as a Big Sister

Solange Knowles takes the cover of Interview magazine’s new issue, where she’s interviewed by her older sister Beyonce!

Here’s what the 30-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag:

On Beyonce as an older sister:
BEYONCÉ: And, honestly, growing up, how did I do as a big sister?
SOLANGE: You did a kickass job. You were the most patient, loving, wonderful sister ever. In the 30 years that we’ve been together, I think we’ve only really, like, butted heads … we can count on one hand.
BEYONCÉ: I was expecting something funny, but I’ll take it. Thank you.

On the misconceptions of being a strong woman: “Oh my God, they’re endless! [laughs] One thing that I constantly have to fight against is not feeling arrogant when I say I wrote every lyric on this album. I still have not been able to say that. That’s the first time I’ve actually ever said it, because of the challenges that we go through when we celebrate our work and our achievements… It’s something I’ve learned so much about from you, getting to be in control of your own narrative. And, at this point, it should be an expectation, not something that you’re asking permission for. I feel like I’m getting closer to that, not taking on all the baggage when I have to just stand up for myself and say, “No, I’m uncomfortable with that.” And I really appreciate you and mom being examples of that, being able to speak about our achievements, these things that deserve to be celebrated, without feeling bashful about it.”

On what their mom taught her: “And, as far back as I can remember, our mother always taught us to be in control of our voice and our bodies and our work, and she showed us that through her example.”
