Idris Elba is all smiles while filming The Dark Tower scenes alongside his young co-star Tom Taylor on Thursday (July 7) in New York City.

Tom is playing the role of Jake Chambers, an eleven-year-old boy who becomes the symbolic son of Idris‘ character Roland/The Gunslinger. The first installment of Stephen King‘s series of novels focused on the two characters developing their relationship.

Idris has been seen filming the movie over the last week in the Big Apple with co-star Matthew McConaughey.

Idris Elba is seen in full costume while playing The Gunslinger for a scene in his upcoming movie The Dark Tower on Friday (July 1) in New York City.

The 43-year-old actor is currently in the Big Apple with Matthew McConaughey working on exterior scenes for their highly anticipated film, based on a Stephen King novel.

Idris Elba shows up on the set of The Dark Tower wearing a hat with the film’s name on it on Thursday (June 30) in New York City.

The 43-year-old actor was not seen in costume that day, but his co-star Matthew McConaughey was spotted in character as Man in Black while working on a scene.

Idris is one of the 683 new invitees in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which features more diverse members than ever. If all of the new invitees accept, the percentage of members of color will raise from 8% to 11%.
