During the interview, the actor called the upcoming Lana Wachowski-directed film “inspiring.”

He added that Lana wrote “a beautiful script that is a love story.”

“It’s another version of a kind of call to wake up and it has some great action…all will be revealed,” he mysteriously teased.

One thing the film won’t be is a prequel, he said.

“No, no. No going in the past,” he confirmed.

The Matrix 4 is currently filming in Berlin after pausing due to the pandemic.

Carrie-Anne Moss is returning as Trinity, as well as Jada Pinkett Smith.

New cast members include Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra and Jessica Henwick. One star recently explained why they’re not returning to the series…

The Matrix 4 is expected to hit theaters in April 2022.

Hugo Weaving Reveals Why He's Not Part of 'The Matrix 4'

Another character you won’t be seeing in The Matrix 4 is Hugo Weaving, aka Agent Smith.

The 60-year-old actor talked with Collider and revealed that there were plans to have him back, but things didn’t work out.

“Lana [Wachowski] was very keen for me to be a part of [The Matrix 4]. I really wanted to because I’m very, very fond of all of them,” Hugo explained. “I had some initial reticence about the idea of going back to revisit The Matrix, after having already done three films, but then I read the script and got an offer to my agent.”

He added that he “immediately responded yes to that, and then we went into negotiation.”

However, that’s when things got a little messy with scheduling dates.

“I was doing a play, at the time, but we were working out dates and things so that I could do both. And then, Lana decided that she didn’t wanna change her dates, so I couldn’t do it,” Hugo added. “In a nutshell, that’s what happened.”

This other original Matrix star won’t be in the fourth movie either…

Keanu Reeves Praises Safety Protocols While Filming 'The Matrix 4'

Keanu Reeves is hard at work filming The Matrix 4 in Berlin!

The 55-year-old actor dished on production of his upcoming movie, praising protocols that have been put in place to keep everyone safe amid the pandemic.

“There’s some really thoughtful, effective protocols in place, and the rhythm of filmmaking has not been really impacted or interrupted, in the sense of filming,” Keanu told the Associated Press. “That’s because of the hard work and organization, and again the thoughtfulness that has gone into the protocols.”

Production for The Matrix 4 first started in February, but cameras weren’t able to start rolling because of the pandemic. In June, filming began in Berlin.

“I think everyone loves the project. If you’re ever going to get into any kind of situation that needs to be figured out, or ‘how do we do this?’ show business people are the best,” Keanu added. “We’re just scrappy, we know how to get stuff done, we’re inventive, think on our feet, and that kind of kindred spirit of just coming together — goes back to like, you know, ‘let’s put on a show!’ ‘We’ll get some props, we’ve got some things, we’re going to write!’ And that spirit is definitely alive and well on The Matrix.”

Lilly Wachowski Confirms 'The Matrix' Is A Trans Story

Lilly Wachowski is finally confirmed that The Matrix is a trans story.

In a virtual interview this week with Netflix Film Club, the filmmaker, who directed the movie with sister Lana, confirmed the speculation about the true meaning of the flicks.

“I’m glad that it has gotten out that that was the original intention,” she shared. “But the world wasn’t quite ready for it — the corporate world wasn’t ready for it.”

Lilly adds, “I’m glad that people are talking about the Matrix movies with a trans narrative; I love how meaningful those films are to trans people, and the way that they come up to me and say ‘these movies saved my life.’”

“I’m grateful to be able to throw them a rope to help them on their journey.”

Lilly went on, saying that “The Matrix stuff was all about the desire for transformation — but it was all coming from a closeted point of view” and even revealed that the character of Switch, was originally meant to be male in the real world but female inside the Matrix.

“That’s both where our head spaces were,” she said.
