Tom Hardy Doesn't Want to Talk James Bond Rumors For This Specific Reason!

Tom Hardy‘s name has been thrown out as one actor who could possibly take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig should he choose to officially move on from the 007 franchise.

During an interview with Daily Beast, the 39-year-old actor was first asked if he would want to do a Christopher Nolan-directed 007 film with Michael Fassbender as the villain.

“Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing! Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool,” he said.

Then, Tom was asked if he wanted to play James Bond – and it seems like he really does!

“You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone. But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie,” Tom said. “Because Daniel [Craig] is so good, and what [Sam] Mendes and Barbara [Broccoli] have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard reimagination to follow after. I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound—again.”

Tom Hardy Explains Why He Went to TV for FX's 'Taboo'

Tom Hardy‘s new series Taboo is getting ready to premiere on FX and he helped promote the show at the 2017 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Thursday (January 12) at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif.

The 39-year-old actor was joined by co-stars Michael Kelly, Oona Chaplin, and David Hayman.

Tom explained that he decided to do the show because he wanted to play the character so badly. He opened up about trying to get creator Steven Knight to work on the show with him and dad Chips Hardy.

“We begged Steve to write our story because we had a concept and a basic treatment of the character, and Steve was busy and he had an offer informally, which was, ‘If you do Locke and Peaky Blinders, I would love to do your pilot and rewrite your title.’ That’s where it all started, and the three of us set about trying to create a new piece of work,” he said (via IGN).

Also in attendance at the TCA on Thursday were Legion‘s Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Katie Aselton, Bill Irwin, Amber Midthunder, and Jeremie Harris, as well as Man Seeking Woman‘s Jay Baruchel, Katie Findlay, and Britt Lower.

FYI: Tom is wearing Citizens of Humanity denim.

Tom Hardy Wanted to Wear Nothing At All in Even More 'Taboo' Scenes

It’s too bad the Taboo creators wouldn’t let Tom Hardy have his way!

The 39-year-old actor recently revealed that he wanted to shoot even more scenes of his new FX series while completely naked.

After some pics circulated of Tom wearing just a loincloth, he made sure fans knew he didn’t like it there.

“You’re lucky there was a loin cloth because I didn’t want one,” he told BBC, adding, “It’s not a period drama until someone gets naked and covers themselves in blood. At least you’re showing willing.”

“I was in Tilbury, in the moat, in the docks, with nothing on,” he goes on to describe one of the scenes. “We were trying to eke out drama from any opportunity and none of that makes the cut.”

Taboo focuses on adventurer James Keziah Delaney (Tom) as he builds his own shipping empire in the early 1800s.

Catch the premiere tomorrow (January 10) on FX!
