Director Tristram Shapeero Writes Formal Apology to Lukas Gage for Audition Video Comments

Tristram Shapeero, the director whose voice can be heard in Euphoria actor Lukas Gage‘s viral audition video, is speaking out with a formal apology letter.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the British-born television director came forward as the mystery voice in the video and he told paparazzi that he would not apologize for his actions.

During the Zoom audition, which Lukas recorded and released online, Tristram seemingly thought he was muted and said, “These poor people live in these tiny apartments, like I’m looking at his background and he’s got his TV…”

Lukas cut him off at this point and told Tristram to give him the role so he could get a better apartment.

Now, Tristram is explaining the context of his words and he’s also offering a formal apology to Lukas for what happened.

The Director in Lukas Gage's Video Has Revealed Himself, Will Not Apologize

Euphoria actor Lukas Gage became a viral sensation this past week thanks to the audition video he shared online, in which a director insulted his apartment while accidentally thinking he was on mute.

Everyone has been trying to figure out who the director in the video is and now the director has confirmed his identity.

While many people were guessing it was Matthew Vaughn because of a comment left by actress January Jones, others correctly guessed it was Tristram Shapeero.

Paparazzi caught up with Tristram this weekend in Los Angeles and asked about the video. He confirmed that he was the director and he explained why he doesn’t have an apology for Lukas.

“I don’t have any apology because I didn’t say anything bad,” he said (via TMZ). Tristram also said that the audition was three months ago and a formal statement will be released eventually.

A lot of celebrities definitely think otherwise because SO MANY stars have left supportive comments for the young actor.

Tristram is a British television director best known for his work on Community, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Most recently, he directed four episodes of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, including the pilot. His latest project is the upcoming comedy series Pivoting, starring Ginnifer Goodwin.
