The two actors both appeared on the Netflix series House of Cards throughout its six-season run and they both have projects being honored at the AFI Awards!

Rachel‘s show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is one of the Programs of the Year while Mahershala‘s movie Green Book is one of the Movies of the Year.

Mahershala was joined at the event by co-stars Viggo Mortensen and Linda Cardellini. He also met up with friend Octavia Spencer.

Green Book is being honored with the Vanguard Award this year! The award honors “a film’s cast and director in recognition of their collective work on an exceptional film project.”

The movie is a frontrunner for the Oscars this year and it has grossed $33 million so far at the box office.

Viggo Mortensen is dapper in a suit as he hits the red carpet at the SFFILM Presents: A Tribute To Viggo Mortensen in Green Book held at the Castro Theatre on Tuesday (November 20) in San Francisco, Calif.

The 60-year-old actor sat down for a Q&A panel to talk about Green Book, which also stars Mahershala Ali and hits theaters today (November 21).

“Audiences will go see it and something will permeate,” Viggo expressed (via Screen Daily). “Any time would be a good time for a movie like this to come out, but this is a particularly good time. It’s the thing that’s so hard to do — socially relevant and profound but it goes down smoothly and percolates into you.”

“‘Don’t go looking for medals, always accept them, never wear them.’ It’s cool. It’s a nice honour,” Viggo added about the award buzz for the film. “I think that the positive reactions to Green Book, and to what Pete [Farrelly] has accomplished, are deserved and correct. That’s my opinion. I think it’s a special movie.”

Each year, Variety Studios features exclusive one-on-one conversations with actors and actresses from the year’s most notable films who are expected to contend this Awards season.

Clips from the event will appear on Variety.com starting at the beginning of December with full episodes to premiere on PBS SoCal KOCE (and will stream on pbssocal.org) beginning on Tuesday, January 8th.

Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen are looking handsome at the 2018 Governors Awards on Sunday night (November 18) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.

The guys star in the new movie Green Book and their director Peter Farrelly also stepped out for the event.

Some more celebs in attendance at the event included At Eternity’s Gate‘s Willem Dafoe, The Sisters Brothers‘ John C. Reilly with wife and producer Alison Dickey, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse voice actor Shameik Moore.

The Academy hands out honorary Oscars each year at the Governors Awards and potential nominees for the upcoming awards are given a chance to mingle with voters.

Mahershala Ali is all smiles on the red carpet as he steps out for the premiere of his new movie Green Book on Tuesday night (November 13) at the Paris Theater in New York City.

The 44-year-old Oscar winner looked handsome in a black coat over a blue, plaid suit as he was joined at the premiere by his co-star Viggo Mortensen and director Peter Farrelly.

During a recent interview, Mahershala had nothing but great things about working with Viggo.

““Viggo was great because he’s an extraordinary teammate,” Mahershala told Us Weekly. “He was somebody who felt supportive of me doing my best work. I believe I tried to do the exact same thing with him. But we were always trying to improve the scene. Every day we did our best to improve the scene and just to capitalize on the opportunities that we had together to try to make something special.”

Green Book follows a working-class Italian-American bouncer who becomes the driver of an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South.
