Oscar-Winning Cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond Dead at 85

Sad news – famed cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond died on Friday (January 1), according to Variety.

He was 85 years old and probably best known for his work on Steven Spielberg‘s 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which earned him an Academy Award. The cause of death wasn’t immediately known.

Vilmos‘ resume also included The Deer Hunter, The River, The Black Dahlia, Deliverance, and many more films.

He also shot a reported 24 episodes of the once-Fox-but-now-Hulu series The Mindy Project from 2012-14. Mindy Kaling took to Twitter to express her condolences, which you can see below.
