Vince Vaughn recently commented on Universal Pictures’ decision to pull the “gay” joke out of the trailer for the comedy The Dilemma.
“Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences, whatever those differences may be,” the 40-year-old actor told Deadline on Thursday. “Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together.”
Vince added, “Drawing dividing lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop.”
Universal Pictures has decided to pull the trailer of Vince Vaughn‘s new movie The Dilemma after they recently came under fire for using the phrase “that’s so gay.”
After GLAADexpressed its concerns with the trailer, Universal decided to omit the use of the phrase in all future TV and media campaigns.
Said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios, “The use of the word ‘gay’ in this trailer as a slur is unnecessary and does nothing more than send a message of intolerance about our community to viewers.”
Anderson Cooper has spoken out against Vince Vaughn‘s pejorative use of “that’s so gay” the trailer for his new film, The Dilemma.
In the film, Vince plays a man who learns that his best friend’s wife is having an affair.
“I was sitting in a movie theater over the weekend and there was a preview of [Vince Vaughn's new] movie, and in it, the actor said, ‘that’s so gay,’ and I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they thought that it was okay to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it,” Anderson said (watch at about 5:45 in the video).
“I just find those words, those terms – we’ve got to do something to make those words unacceptable ’cause those words are hurting kids,” he added.
“Someone else I talked to recently said that the words people use and the things people say about other kids online, it enters into their internal dialogue. When you’re a kid, it can change the way you see yourself and the way you think about yourself – the worth that you give to yourself. I think we really need to focus on what language we’re using and how we’re treating these kids.”

The Dilemma, which also features Queen Latifah, will be out in theaters on January 14th!
“It’s the first time that I really want to have kids,” Vince shared back in September, saying he’d enjoyed being a bachelor but was ready to start a new chapter in his life.
