Viola Davis Reveals Her Struggle With Childhood Hunger in PSA

Viola Davis is opening up about her struggle with childhood hunger in a touching new PSA.

In the video, the Oscar-nominated actress explains that as a child she sometimes didn’t have enough to eat at home.

“Growing up, I was among the 1 in 5 American kids who struggled with hunger. And hungry mornings make tired days,” she says.

Viola goes on the explain the difference breakfast can make for children and thanks to Hunger Is, a joint charitable initiative between the Albertsons Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, children can get the nutrition they need.

She has already helped raise over $12.5 million for the organization over the last three years. Fans can help the cause at HungerIs.org.

Viola Davis Plays Plead the Fifth with Andy Cohen on 'WWHL'

Viola Davis, Hayley Atwell, and Regina King walk the carpet at the ABC TCA Summer Tour Party held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday (August 4) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The ladies were joined at the event by Minnie Driver, Designated Survivor‘s Kiefer Sutherland, and Mistresses stars Jes Macallan, Brett Tucker, and Tabrett Bethell.

That same night, Viola‘s appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen aired and she had to play the game Plead the Fifth.

Viola Davis Doesn't Expect to Win an Oscar for 'Suicide Squad'

Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon make their way through LAX Airport on Tuesday afternoon (August 2) in Los Angeles.

The Oscar-nominated actress was arriving home after attending the premiere of her new movie Suicide Squad in New York City the night before.

The film has sadly been receiving negative reviews and Viola was asked by TMZ if she thinks she will win an Oscar for her work.

Viola responded by making a funny face and saying, “No, but that’s okay. I’m good with it.” Watch below!

Will Smith & 'Suicide Squad' Cast Stops by 'GMA' Together

Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje pose for photos at Good Morning America on Monday (August 1) in New York City.

The guys were joined by co-stars Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, and Karen Fukuhara for a group interview.

Will opened up about Jared Leto, who was absent for the appearance, and how he never went out of character on set.

“I met Jared Leto for the first time about three weeks ago,” Will said. “We worked together for six months. We literally never exchanged a word that wasn’t between action and cut. We didn’t say, ‘Hey, how you doing? Nice to meet you.’ Except he sent me a pig once … an actual pig. He went full joker for sure.”

'Suicide Squad' Premieres New Trailer at Comic-Con 2016

The cast of Suicide Squad strikes a triumphant pose after a signing held at 2016 Comic-Con on Saturday (July 23) in San Diego, Calif.

Later in the day, the cast, including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Adam Beach, Joel Kinnaman, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, took part in a panel to discuss the film.

During the presentation, the cast unveiled a brand new trailer for the film.

'Suicide Squad' Characters Highlighted on 'EW' Covers!

Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne and Joel Kinnaman take on two of four separate Entertainment Weekly covers for their film Suicide Squad.

“Two years ago Suicide Squad was a tertiary [DC property]. No one knew anything about it. It was a cool little playground,” director David Ayer told the mag. “Now it’s like the hype bus. All of the attention has swung onto it, and it has to carry a lot more weight than it was ever intended to.”

“You don’t know what the Joker is going to do next; you never do. It was intoxicating to have no rules,” Jared told the publication about his character.

Viola Davis, Jay ­Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-­Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jai Courtney, and more star in the film, in theaters August 5.
