Viola Davis Responds to Nancy Lee Grahn's Controversial Tweets About Her Emmys Speech

Viola Davis is opening up about comments made by General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn about her inspirational acceptance speech at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

“If there has been any backlash, it’s that all people want to feel included in a speech,” the 50-year-old How to Get Away With Murder star told The New York Times. “I know there has been some backlash with an actress who didn’t feel she was included.”

When asked if she was referring to Nancy Lee, Viola said, “Yes. I don’t know that I want to say more about that.”

Nancy Lee originally wrote, “Try being any woman in TV. Wish she’d brought every woman in the picture. I wish I’d opportunity to play roles she has gets…Harriet Tubman not equivalent to great roles Viola Davis hired 2play. She’s made millions. It is unfair comparison.”

She has since apologized and deleted the tweets.

Viola Davis Celebrates TGIT Return With Her 'How to Get Away With Murder' Castmates After Emmy Win

“Hey @kendrick38 remember that time we were shooting a scene with Viola Davis less than 24 hours after we found out we booked the role? #minorfreakout #HTGAWM,” Amy recently tweeted.

FYI: Kendrick is wearing a Samuelsohn suit.

Viola Davis Talks About Drinking Before Her Emmy Win (Video)

Viola Davis sits down for an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing on Thursday (September 24) in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old How to Get Away With Murder star opened up about her winning of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the show at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

Viola admitted that she did drink before the show.

“I drink my Prosecco before the show and ya know what I say that so often Ellen that I drink Prosecco before the show. So I think that I’m coming off as the biggest alcoholic in the world,” Viola joked. “Well, I have done that in the past, but this past time I drank while I was getting ready. While I was getting in hair and makeup while my daughter was jumping on my lap I drank I just guzzled the glass.”

Soap Star Nancy Lee Grahn Slammed for Viola Davis Tweets

General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn is being slammed on social media for a comment she made about Viola Davisacceptance speech at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

“I wish I loved #ViolaDavis Speech, but I thought she should have let @shondarhimes write it. #Emmys,” Nancy tweeted after the big win.

In replies to fan comments, she also said, “Try being any woman in TV. Wish she’d brought every woman in the picture. I wish I’d opportunity to play roles she has gets… Harriet Tubman not equivalent to great roles Viola Davis hired 2play. She’s made millions. It is unfair comparison.”

Tons of fans slammed her for her comments and she even became a national trending topic. After going back and forth with tons of fans all night, Nancy released a lengthy apology.

Viola Davis made history at the 2015 Emmy Awards by becoming the first black woman to win in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and tons of stars are celebrating with her!

The How to Get Away with Murder actress thanked other women who have paved the way, including Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, Nicole Beharie, and Meagan Good.

Several of those ladies and many other celebs like Oprah Winfrey, Julianne Moore, Ellen DeGeneres, Katie Couric, and more sent out congratulatory tweets as well.

Viola Davis Makes History for Black Women at Emmys 2015

Viola Davis accepts her award on stage at the 2015 Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (September 20) in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old actress won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on the show How to Get Away with Murder.

Viola made history as the first black woman to ever win an award in the category. Just a few years back, Kerry Washington became the first black woman in nearly two decades to get a nomination in the category. She thanked Kerry and quoted Harriet Tubman in her acceptance speech, which you can watch below.

Viola Davis Helps Make Women's History Before the Emmys

Viola Davis is lovely in yellow while stepping out for the 2015 Women Making History Brunch presented by the National Women’s History Museum & Glamour Magazine on Saturday (September 19) at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old actress, Emmy-nominated for her work on How to Get Away with Murder, was joined by her husband Julius Tennon. She was one of the honorees at the event and her award was presented to her by Maria Bello!
