Lena Dunham Honors Joan Rivers with a Plastic Surgery Joke
Lena Dunham attends the celebration of Betty Halbreich‘s new memoir “I’ll Drink to That: A Life in Style with a Twist” on Thursday (September 4) in New York City.
The 28-year-old Girls actress took to her Twitter account that day to honor the late Joan Rivers by making a joke about plastic surgery.
“Watching Joan Rivers do standup at age 81 was incredible: athletic, jaw-dropping, terrifying, essential. It never stopped. Neither will she… I told Maron I’d have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn’t think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory,” she tweeted.
“That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it’s made of polyurethane,” Lena added.
Later that night Lena wrote another tweet responding to criticism for joking about the comedienne on the day of her death.
“Just gonna assume everyone telling me I’m ugly on twitter tonight is commemorating Joan Rivers and therefore I love you all,” Lena said.
