Robert Durst Charged with First Degree Murder, Eligible for Death Penalty

Robert Durst, the subject of the HBO documentary series The Jinx, has been charged with first degree murder for the 2000 death of Susan Berman.

The 71-year-old real estate heir was arrested in New Orleans over the weekend, just before the finale of the series aired.

Robert was charged with first degree murder by Los Angeles prosecutors and he is eligible for the death penalty if convicted. Specifically, he was charged with “one count of first-degree murder with special circumstances of the murder of a witness, lying in wait, and using a gun, ” according to BuzzFeed.

[SPOILER ALERT] In the finale, Robert was recorded saying “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course” in reference to the three murders he was a suspect in.
