Monica Puig Wins Puerto Rico's First Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics 2016!

Monica Puig has made history by winning the first-ever gold medal for Puerto Rico at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Saturday (August 13)!

The 22-year-old tennis player is also the first Puerto Rican female to win an Olympic medal.

With her powerful hits and aggressive strategy, Monica defeated Germany’s Angelique Kerber in the women’s singles tennis tournament.

Monica won the first set 6—4, and then Angelique had to go to the locker room for a medical timeout.

Angelique took the second set 6—4 before being defeated by Monica in the third set 6-1.

After the final round, Monica dropped her tennis racket and paraded around the court carrying a flag.
