Claire Danes Says Her 'Homeland' Character Is So Much Bigger Than Her Gender!

Claire Danes is opening up about playing Carrie Mathison in Homeland, and what else we can expect from her character in season six.

“Her eternal wish is that she gets to watch an episode of television that isn’t her own show,” the 37-year-old actress expressed while attending the ATAS Emmy screening of Homeland at the NeueHouse Hollywood on Monday (April 3) in Los Angeles.

“But I actually think there are a lot of romances at play with Carrie this season, they’re just not sexual,” Claire added. “She feels a deep intimacy with people [...] and that it’s very intense with Quinn, and with Saul, and Frannie. She has deep, complex attachments to these primary characters. But that’s one of the great gifts of this role: that she is so much bigger than her gender. She is defined by her ethics, morals, political ambition, and there’s just so much at play.”

Also in attendance a the special screening was Claire‘s co-stars Mandy Patinkin and Rupert Friend with wife Aimee Mullins, as well as executive producer/director Lesli Linka and co-creator/showrunner Alex Gansa.
