Evan Rachel Wood Sings 'Edelweiss,' Dedicates It to Her Son

Evan Rachel Wood sings a beautiful rendition of The Sound of Music‘s classic song “Edelweiss” in this new video and she also explained why she sang the tune.

“There’s been multiple times now, my son has woken up and found me in the living room, having watched the news all night, and I am quietly weeping,” the Westworld actress wrote on Twitter.

“It’s getting increasingly harder trying to explain to him why his mother is crying,” Evan said. “He doesn’t know hate. He hasn’t been taught it yet. He is pure and full of hope. So today when he found me, instead of telling him ‘our king is not a good man,’ which is all he can really comprehend at this point, I showed him The Sound of Music.”

“He clung to this song,” Evan said of the tune. “Although he can’t articulate why with words just yet, I saw in his eyes a deep understanding. He could feel the power in this piece of music and it gave me so much hope, more than he will ever know.”

“Which propelled me, a few hours later, finding myself on stage singing it with my dear friend and maybe one of the most talented people I know, Zane Carney, because he took a half serious text super seriously and I am very grateful we got to share the moment,” Evan added. “This one is for my son and for anyone who needs a reminder that there is good in the world. There are children and there is music. This song is about home. May you forever bloom and grow.”
