Best Buy to Stop Selling CDs, Target May Follow

Best Buy has reportedly made the decision to stop carrying physical CDs in their stores starting later this year.

Effective July 1, the retailer will no longer sell CDs, but they will continue to carry vinyl for at least the next two years.

Target may follow as another retailer to stop selling CDs in stores. Billboard is reporting that the store is trying to make a deal with music suppliers to sell CDs on a consignment basis, so that they aren’t stuck with the cost of shipping back unsold CDs.

Best Buy was once the most music sales of any merchandiser in the U.S., but these days the company is only selling around $40 million annually, according to Billboard.
