Nicki Minaj Will Perform at a Festival in Conservative Saudi Arabia

Nicki Minaj is going to Saudi Arabia.

The 36-year-old “Megatron” rapper will perform at the 2019 Jeddah World Festival on July 18 at King Abdullah Sports Stadium.

Liam Payne and Steve Aoki are among the headliners for the event in the notoriously conservative country.

The concert will be alcohol and drug free, and open to people 16 and older.

Some have questioned Nicki‘s decision to perform, given the country’s strict enforcement of gender segregation policies. Most women are required to wear modest clothing, along with a veil.

At the same time, there have been some small advances: women were recently granted the right to drive after strict restrictions. However, there is still a long way to go for equality in the country.
