Mulan's Yifei Liu Voices Support for Hong Kong Police, Protesters Launch Boycott of Movie

People have launched a protest against the upcoming Disney movie Mulan after the film’s star Yifei Liu (also known as Crystal Liu) voiced her support for the police in Hong Kong.

There have been anti-police brutality protests going on in Hong Kong and now people believe that she supports police brutality.

Liu, who has 65 million followers on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, retweeted an image shared by the Communist Party’s page People’s Daily. The post said “I support the Hong Kong police; you can beat me up now” in Chinese and in English it added, “What a shame for Hong Kong.”

She also added the hashtag “IAlsoSupportTheHongKongPolice” to her post, along with a heart emoji.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all blocked in China, but #BoycottMulan has trended on social media around the world. See one of the viral tweets below.
