Imelda Staunton Has Not Been Cast in 'The Crown'

Despite some reports, Imelda Staunton has not actually been cast in The Crown.

Netflix has announced that the 63-year-old Harry Potter and Downton Abbey actress does not have a confirmed role in seasons five and six of the series.

“We are currently filming season 4 of The Crown but have not commissioned any further seasons as yet, therefore any news on casting remains pure speculation,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement (via Variety).

Imelda Staunton was rumored to take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman.

Season three of The Crown recently debuted on Netflix. Production on season four is underway, though a premiere date announced has not yet been announced.
