J.K. Rowling tweeted in support of Maya Forstater, a woman who was fired from her job at the Center for Global Development for a series of tweets calling into question the government plans to allow trans people to self-identify as their gender, saying “men cannot change into women.”

Supporters, as well as her dissenters, began using the hashtag #IStandWithMaya to debate the issue of her firing – and J.K. is apparently one who stands by her side.

“Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?” she wrote, adding “#IStandWithMaya and #ThisIsNotADrill.”

She immediately sparked backlash for her tweet, being accused of transphobia and being called a “TERF,” which means “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.” Other fans, including members of the LGBTQ community, expressed their disappointment with the author for defending Maya‘s anti-trans sentiments.
