Met Gala 2020 Officially Canceled After Postponement Due to Pandemic
The 2020 Met Gala will not be happening at all.
After initially being postponed amid the pandemic, the annual event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art confirmed to Vogue on Tuesday (May 19) that it was being called off entirely this year “due to the global health crisis.”

The event is usually held on the first Monday of May, and was postponed back in March after the museum closed following two employees showing symptoms of the virus. The Met is now hoping to reopen in mid-August “or perhaps a few week later.”
The theme and co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala were announced back in November:About Time: Fashion and Duration. Anna Wintour, French designer Nicolas Ghesquière of Louis Vuitton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep were the co-chairs.
