Meghan Markle's BFF Jessica Mulroney Faces Backlash for Argument with Influencer Sasha Exeter, CTV Pulls Her Show

Jessica Mulroney, who is a Canadian fashion stylist and the longtime best friend of Meghan Markle, is facing backlash after influencer and entrepreneur Sasha Exeter came forward and said she received threats from her.

Sasha posted a generic call to action on her Instagram page last week in which she encouraged people with large followings to “use their voice for good and help combat the race war and what’s happening to the Black community.”

Jessica, who is an acquaintance of Sasha‘s, seemingly thought the post was directed at her and she responded by sending “a threat in writing.”

In a new video that Sasha shared to open up about what happened, she said, “Unfortunately though, one very prominent Canadian figure, who used to be an acquaintance of mine, named Jessica Mulroney, took offense to a very generic call to action that I shared on my IG stories. What happened next was a series of very problematic behavior and antics that ultimately resulted in her sending me a threat in writing last Wednesday.”

Sasha made a point to say that she is not calling Jessica a racist, but said that she “is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the color of her skin… And that my friends gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing.” She called this the “textbook” example of white privilege.

In the video, Sasha pointed out that even though Jessica is best friends with “arguably one of the most famous Black women in the world,” she had not publicly spoken out about Black Lives Matter.

Sasha shared the messages that Jessica wrote to her and she compared the stylist to Amy Cooper, the woman who called the cops on a black man who was bird watching in New York City’s Central Park.

“For her to threaten me ― a single mom, a single Black mom ― during a racial pandemic blows my mind,” Sasha said. “The goal here is genuine, transformative change ― not optical and performative bullshit. You cannot be posting that you stand in solidarity while attempting to silence somebody via text.”

Sasha says that Jessica wrote a public apology to her in the comments of her Instagram page, but then threatened a lawsuit in a DM.

Now, Jessica has released a statement on her Instagram account in which she said, “[Sasha] rightfully called me out for not doing enough when it came to engaging in the important and difficult conversation about race and injustice in our society. I took it personally and that was wrong. I know I need to do better. Those of us with a platform must use it to speak out.”

Jessica added, “I want to say from my heart that every word of my apologies to Sasha over the course of the last two weeks privately, and again both publicly and privately today is true. I did not intend in any way jeopardize her livelihood. We had a disagreement and it got out of hand. For that I am sorry.” She also said that she will be handing her Instagram account over to Black voices and stepping away from her social media for the time being.

CTV has decided to pull her show I Do Redo from all Bell Media channels and platforms effective immediately because her “recent conduct… conflicts with [the network's] commitment to diversity and equality.
