U.S. Representative Andy Barr's Wife Eleanor Dies Suddenly at 39, Cause of Death Released

U.S. Representative Andy Barr‘s wife Eleanor Carol Leavell died suddenly at the age of 39 at their home on Tuesday (June 16) and a cause of death has now been revealed.

A preliminary autopsy concluded that the 39-year-old suffered from mitral valve prolapse (MVP). According to the Mayo clinic, “Mitral valve prolapse occurs when the flaps (leaflets) of the heart’s mitral valve bulge (prolapse) like a parachute into the heart’s left upper chamber (left atrium) as the heart contracts.” The Mayo Clinic also notes that many people never have symptoms when suffering from the condition, and many don’t need treatment.

Coroner Gary Ginn confirms Eleanor was in her home office when she was found deceased.

“It was sad. We got a young mother that we don’t have a cause of death for. There’s no explanation for it at the scene. Obviously, an autopsy was necessary to determine the exact cause of death,” Ginn told People ahead of the preliminary autopsy.

Eleanor leaves behind daughters Eleanor, 9, and Mary Clay, 7.
