Hamilton's Jonathan Groff Is Aware That He Spits While Singing, Plus Fans Are Reacting!
Jonathan Groff‘s performance as King George in Hamilton was captured for the movie that is debuting on Disney+ this weekend and one detail of his work has a lot of fans talking.
The 35-year-old actor tends to spit while he is singing and he is well aware!
“I spit a lot onstage,” Jonathan told Variety last year. “I’ve always been a spitter … I start sweating. I just get wet when I perform onstage. It is just what happens.”
Jonathan played the role of Seymour in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors last year and his spit often hit the fans since the theater was so tiny.
“For the first couple weeks of the run I felt bad, because I’d walk down to the end of the stage in the second song of the show, ‘Skid Row,’ and I can’t help it, I’m just, like, spitting on everyone. And they’re either enjoying it, or they’re laughing, or they’re holding up their programs to block their face,” Jonathan said. “I don’t care anymore, but it made me feel self-conscious at first. I’d never been so close to the audience where I was actually seeing the reaction on people’s face while I spat on them!”
Learn about the one moment of the show that is captured in the film, but now on the soundtrack.
Fans are already talking about Jonathan‘s spitting in Hamilton!
The embargo’s up and idk if this is a spoiler but the surprise MVP of the Hamilton is Jonathan Groff’s insane and impressive spit shown in close-up.

Details I enjoyed… the way the camera pans around the sisters during my fav, "The Schuyler Sisters," the way Jonathan Groff spits all over himself during "You'll Be Back," and just watching Daveed Diggs, who is always moving. Diggs is so great, so versatile in this show pic.twitter.com/ziQQbTGXJy

My all time favorite celebrity encounter was getting repeatedly hit with Groff spit while front row at Little Shop https://t.co/hq8nZEdFXa

When I met Lin last year I was telling him I sat in the very last row of the Richard Rodgers the first time I saw Ham and Lin-Manuel replied “and I bet Groff’s spit still landed on you even all the way up there” 🤣🤣

**I feel it's important for you to know this tweet was in my drafts before I heard about the apparently impressive #Hamilfilm Groff spit situation and now it just feels like fate**

Jonathan Groff is an absolute delight. He is only on for about 8 minutes and sings a different version of the same thing each time, but he absolutely steals the show each time. He also spits a lot.
