Taylor Swift's 'Betty' Lyrics Are Being Analyzed By Fans - Who Is She Singing About?!

“Betty” was trending on Twitter shortly after Taylor Swift dropped her new album Folklore because everyone is analyzing the lyrics to the new song!

While opening up about the new album, the 30-year-old singer said, “I found myself not only writing my own stories, but also writing about or from the perspective of people I’ve never met, people I’ve known, or those I wish I hadn’t.”

The song seems to be told from the perspective a boy named James who is reminiscing about the childish way he treated his high school classmate Betty.

Taylor‘s fans are praising the song for its feminist narrative because the narrator is portrayed as someone who can’t own up to mistakes, but Betty is doing fine on her own. There are also a lot of fans trying to figure out if the narrator is actually a girl and if the song is actually about a gay relationship. One fan tweeted, “betty a queer anthem. i will not elaborate.”

Taylor actually confirmed that three songs on the album are referred to as the “Teenage Love Triangle.” She says, “These 3 songs explore a love triangle from all 3 people’s perspectives at different times in their lives.”

Twitter user @ICudBldACastle has an idea: “-cardigan: the girl he cheated on (aka betty); -august: the girl he cheated with; -betty: the cheaters perspective.”

It also is being pointed out that James and Inez, two names mentioned in the song, are the names of Blake Lively‘s kids. She is one of Taylor‘s BFFs!
