Basketball Player Michael Ojo Dies at 27 After Collapsing During Training

Michael Ojo, a basketball player who formerly played for Florida State University, has died at the age of 27.

The Nigerian-born athlete died after collapsing during an individual training session on Friday (August 7) in Belgrade, Serbia.

Michael‘s former basketball team, Red Star Belgrade, released the following statement: “Michael Ojo, centre of Crvena zvezda Basketball Club has passed away in Belgrade earlier today. We are lost for words, it’s simply devastating. Rest in peace, Gentle Giant.”

It is being reported that Michael collapsed during a training session and was taken to the hospital, but he couldn’t be resuscitated. His cause of death is still pending.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and former teammates of Michael,” FSU said in a statement. “Michael was a team captain, Florida State graduate and a valued member of the Tallahassee community. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He will forever be remembered for the positive impact he had on the Seminole family.”
