Britney Spears' Conservatorship Extended to February 2021

Britney Spears‘ conservatorship has been extended.

Following the news that Britney‘s attorney filed a request on her behalf for her father Jamie Spears to be removed from the conservatorship and permanently replaced solely by her current temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery, a judge ruled that the conservatorship will be extended until at least February of 2021, Variety confirmed Friday (August 21).

Britney’s attorney, Samuel Ingham, was authorized to file a petition no later than September 18 and have it set for hearing on October 14, and the temporary letters of conservatorship were extended until February 1, 2021.

The document filed by her lawyer states that Britney Spears opposes her father’s control over her estate and would strongly prefer oversight of her finances via corporate fiduciary: “Britney…strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role.”

Lawyers for Britney believed the motion would be “aggressively contested” by Jamie Spears: “We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes.”

At the same time, her father has just petitioned to be in charge of her financial affairs with former co-conservator Andrew Wallet.
