Gabrielle Union Says Her PTSD Has Been on High Alert During The Pandemic

Gabrielle Union is speaking out about how she’s handling her mental health during the pandemic.

The 47-year-old actress spoke to Women’s Health magazine and revealed that her PTSD has been elevated in the past year due to the circumstances of the pandemic looming and racial injustice.

“The combination of the pandemic and this racial reckoning, alongside being inundated with [images of] the brutalization of Black bodies, has sent my PTSD into overdrive,” Gabrielle shared. “There’s just terror in my body.”

Gabrielle continues, speaking on what she personally does to calm her anxieties.

“I break out my emotional fix-me toolkit, and I try to run through all the situations,” she says. “I call it my ‘what’s the likelihood of X happening?’ method.”

She goes on, “If I’m fearful about going into a store because I’m anxious about being robbed, I’ll make myself feel better by going to one where there will be witnesses to cut down those chances. It’s been this way since ’92. It’s just something I do; second nature.”

Gabrielle does credit therapy with helping her anxieties as well, saying, “I feel different in my body. I feel freer.”
